Ayurveda: Tips for a Balanced Lifestyle

January 10, 2017

Ayurveda = "Life Knowledge"

According to Ayurveda, we are made up as the same elements internally in our body that are all around us externally in our universe. Therefor, knowing what the elements are, what our elemental nature is, and how the elements affect the world within us, as well as the world around us, is crucial to our ultimate existence as human beings to fulfill our full potential. To begin, we must first know the five main elements: ether (or space), air, fire, water, and earth. These elements make up our constitution, which is commonly referred to as our dosha. Technically, dosha refers to when our constitution is out of balance. When we are in sync with our elemental nature, we are working within the framework of our own original constitution. So, what are these constitutions, or doshas, you might wonder? There are three basic constitutions: Vata (primarily made up of the ether and space elements), Pitta (primarily made up of the fire and water elements), and Kapha (primarily made up of the water and earth elements.) Of course, we all have some of all of the elements inside of us, but there are particular elements that we are predominantly made up of. This is important information for us to become aware of, if we are actually interested in further understanding how external elements affect our internal elemental nature, and vice versa. Foods, herbs, yoga postures (asanas), times of the day, seasons of the year, and stages of the life cycle are some of the major considerations, outside of ouselves, to take into account when we are measuring how balanced we feel within our own skin. This topic is far too broad to tackle in just one blog post, however. I will delve deeper into this conversation in the Ayurveda public workshops being offered within the local Mount Washington Valley community, which will be announced on both the Zenergie Facebook page and website.
